WSACC to Lower Lake Don T. Howell Levels for Preventative Maintenance Work

The Water & Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County (WSACC) lowered the water level at Lake Don T. Howell by approximately five feet in preparation for scheduled maintenance on the dam. The planned maintenance is a proactive measure, with planning efforts spanning several months. This work is not related to any recent weather events or damage to the dam.

WSACC regularly conducts independent inspections of the dam through both the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) and external consulting engineers to ensure the structure continues to perform as designed for the future. The last inspection was completed June 6, 2024.

This initiative began early November and will take about two months to complete. Following the completion of the work, the lake will be allowed to return to its normal levels.

“This maintenance project demonstrates our dedication to maintaining the safety and functionality of our infrastructure,” said Chad VonCannon, Executive Director of WSACC. “By proactively addressing these needs, we are ensuring that Lake Don T. Howell and its surrounding areas continue to be a safe and reliable resource for our community.”
